World Food Day – October 16
World Food Day , now also known as Food Engineers Day is observed by all UN Member States on October 16 around the world every year to honor the date of the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in 1945. World Food Day is observed globally but not a public holiday. Every year, a large number of events – from marathons and hunger marches, to exhibitions, cultural performances, contests and concerts – are organized in around 150 countries across the world to celebrate World Food Day raising awareness of the issues behind poverty and hunger.
Since 1981, various themes described below have been adopted to celebrate this day and highlight the importance of food security and the steps needed to be taken during the approach.

FAO, headquartered in Rome,Italy is calling on countries to address food and agriculture in their climate action plans and invest more in rural development. Growing food in a sustainable way means adopting practices that produce more with less in the same area of land and use natural resources wisely. It also means reducing food losses before the final product or retail stage through a number of initiatives including better harvesting, storage, packing, transport, infrastructure, market mechanisms, as well as institutional and legal frameworks.
