Steamed Chicken Dim Sum (Dumplings) Recipe
Dim Sum has its origin in Canton, China. The dish was prepared as a snack with tea but later on it came to become a meal which is taken on the morning time. Dim Sum can be prepared by various ways like steaming and frying being the popular of them all. The size of each dim sum is small and can be found in various shapes. It is noted that many restaurants in Hong Kong starts providing its customers this dish starting form as early as 5 in the morning. Dim sum is very nutritious due to the ingredients getting boiled only with the steam. The following process would help in preparing dim sum at home, with authentic restaurant flavor.
2) Add some water and mix with the hands to make a proper dough, which should not be watery neither too dry.
3) Take a small amount of dough and give it a shape of circle with the hands, then continue rolling it with the rolling pin, till it becomes very thin sheet.
4) Cut out the in the form of a square sheets, best size is of 3.5 on both sides.
Ingredients For making Dim sum:
Chicken minced (can be replaced with pork) – 250 gms (8.5 Oz)
Shrimps – 100 gms (3.3 Oz)
spring onion – ½ cup
Onion – 1 big (finely chopped)
Green chili – 5 finely chopped
Salt – as per taste
Carrot – 1 small (finely chopped)
Peas – ½ cup
Oyster sauce – 2 table spoon
Sesame oil – few drops
Ginger garlic paste – 1 table spoon
Method
1) In a bowl mix the chicken, shrimps, spring onion, ginger & garlic paste and mix well.
2) Take a wonton sheet and put a spoonful of mixture or as the sheet can hold.
3) Folding the wonton sheets would require a small dedication, firstly moisten the sheet by applying little water then put the mixture on the middle of the sheet then fold it to meet the ends. Slowly press the ends to seal.
4) Put carrots, peas on the top of each dim sum to give a nice rich colorful topping.
5) Now, put the dim sum on the steamer and boil them till they get prepared (approximately 10 minutes).
The dim sum is now ready to be eaten with sauce or simply with tea as a part of snacks.
