In U.S. Flag Day is observed on June 14 every year. On May 30, 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a presidential proclamation establishing a national Flag Day on June 14. It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States, which happened on June 14, 1777, by resolution of the Second Continental Congress.

Many people in the States celebrate this day by saluting the flag and by displaying the Red, White and Blue in front of their homes and businesses. The day commemorates the adoption of the Stars and Stripes as the official flag of the United States.

On June 14, 1777 at a meeting of the Continental Congress in Philadelphia, it was decided that the flag of the thirteen United States shall be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white and that the Union would be thirteen stars, white on a blue field, representing a new constellation.” There have been twenty-seven official versions of the flag so far and stars have been added to it as states have entered the Union.

The oldest continuing Flag Day parade is in Fairfield, Washington which began in 1909 or 1910 and celebrated the “Centennial” parade in 2010. Quincy, Massachusetts, has had an annual Flag Day parade since 1952 and is the longest-running parade of its kind in the nation.The largest Flag Day parade is held annually in Troy, New York,
