Egg Custard Tart Recipe
Egg tart also known as Egg custard tart is the preferred delicacies in any most Asian countries, like in Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong. The dish was first introduced during the 1940s, Hong Kong in the category of “dim sum” (snack). Nowadays, there is a great variant that comes in all kind of flavors such as milk tarts, honey-egg tarts, ginger-flavored egg tarts, chocolate egg tarts and green-tea-flavored egg tarts. The approximate time for this preparation is 2 hours, it doesn’t need to be a good cook in order to do this as the steps are simple and can be easily followed. This dish is a very traditional dessert and is available into two kinds of tart shells, one is puff pastry like, other being cookie type. The following step will guide in preparing the egg tarts.
Ingredients For Dough:
Butter dough:
All-purpose flour – 1 cup
Butter (unsalted) – 125 gms (4.4) cold
Method
1) Take butter and slice them into pieces then wrap them in a plastic, place in the fridge for 15 minutes.
2) Place the butter and start spreading the butter with the rolling pin.
Ingredients For Water dough:
All-purpose flour – 1 cup
Egg – 3
Cold water – ¼ cup
Method
1) On a bowl make a dough by adding all the ingredients, and place it in fridge by covering in wrapping plastic.
Ingredients For Filling:
Egg custard:
Eggs – 3
Milk – 1 cup
Vanilla extract – 1 tea spoon
Method
1) In a bowl add all the ingredients and mix them well. Shift the mixture to the fridge for 15 minutes.
For The tart making
1) Take the dough, and spread it by using rolling pin.
2) Roll the dough properly, and place the butter that was placed inside fridge.
3) Cover the butter layer with the dough and then roll it again to make a sheet.
4) Wrap the sheet with wrapping plastic and preserve inside fridge for 15 minutes.
5) After 15 minutes take the sheet out and make it into 3 fold as shown in the image.
6) Roll the sheet again to make it a broad sheet and then fold it again, one being from the right of the center and other from the left of the center then cover it.
7) Now wrap the sheet with wrapping plastic and place it inside fridge for around 15 minutes.
8) Take the with the help of tart mold make circular shape base.
9) Place the circular sheets in the middle of the tart tins, then press the dough lightly with the thumbs, so as to make it stick to the tart base.
10) Do pierce the tart base with a fork so that the heat is evenly transferred, fill the tart with the custard and place in the oven.
11) Preheat the oven to 200 C or around 400 F, then place the tart on the lower third rack of the oven for around 15 minutes.
