Asian Steamed Rice Cake Recipe
Steamed rice cake is loved by all Asians and is available in all Asian restaurants across globe. The key ingredient of this dish is rice flour, merged with any binding substance. Slight twist in preparation is observed in all Asian country, like that in terms of steaming or adding something as toppings. The Chinese rice cakes are of two types – one prepared from only rice flour and other from the mix of rice and plain flour, both of these versions are fluffy and chewy in nature. The steps below is going assist in preparing the authentic Asian steamed rice cake at ease.
Ingredients
Water (warm) – 3 cups
Active yeast – 21 gms (0.8 Oz )
Rice flour – 450 gms (16 Oz)
Coconut milk – 360 gms (13 Oz)
Sugar – ½ cup
Method
1) On a bowl add 2 cups of warm water, yeast and rice flour then mix well.
2) Cover the mixture with wrapping plastic for 1 hour.
3) Take another bowl and add 1 cup of water, coconut milk and sugar and set the mixture for 20 minutes.
4) Uncover the wrapping plastic from the mixture and add both the mixture, then preserve this for 1 more hour.
5) Pour the mixture in a cake pan over any steaming utensil or over steamer.
6) Steam the cake over medium flame for 45 minutes then take out and serve.
Note-
* For The checking purpose a toothpick can be used to pierce in the middle, if anything sticks to the sides of the toothpick while taking out, it indicates it is not done and requires some more heat.
