September 23 has been celebrated around the world as Bi Visibility Day or International Celebrate Bisexuality Day since 1999. The day aims to provide a platform to the bisexual community and their supporters and to bring global attention to the social, economic and cultural prejudices and challenges faced by bisexual people. Events to celebrate Bi Visibility Day include discussions, workshop and conferences that highlight the history and culture of the bisexual community and address the issues faced by it. Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) organizations hold public outreach and education programs where they inform the public about the rights of bisexual people. International Celebrate Bisexuality Day is not an official holiday so businesses, schools and government offices are open.
